「三塔周景」の「三塔」とは斑鳩町にある３つの仏塔、法隆寺五重塔、法輪寺三重塔、法起寺三重塔のこと。「周景」は辞書にない言葉、横田監督の造語。「三塔」の周りという意味と、季節の周（めぐ）りを表す。今回撮影スタッフは「三塔」の「周景」に密着。膨大な記録を12分の作品に凝縮させた。
映画は真夏より始まる。壮麗な伽藍にかかる入道雲。田んぼでは青々と稲が茂る。秋になり神輿が路地を練り歩く。響き渡る太鼓の音。黄金色の稲が収穫されてゆく。冬となり雪が降る、しんしんと。屋根瓦が白く染まってゆく。そして春。川辺の桜並木に人々が集う。門前の老木も花をつけた。暖かい日差しが降りそそぐ。やがて再び田植えが始まって―。
斑鳩の風景が綴る映像詩、そこにあるのは古より変わらぬ暮らしの光景、命の営みだ。

Santo shukei
"Santo" from "Santo shukei" represents the 3 pagodas in Ikaruga: the five-storied pagoda at Horyuji, and the three-storied pagodas at Horinji and Hokkiji. The word, "shukei," which was coined by Director Yokota, stands for "the 3 pagoda's surroundings" and "the round of the seasons." For making this film, staffs have covered "shukei" of "santo" closely. This 12 minute-work was created by condensing a huge amount of those records.
The film begins with the scene of the midsummer.There is a towering thundercloud over the glorious temple. Lush rice plants are growing in the paddy.In autumn, people carrying Mikoshi (a portable shrine) parade in alleys. The sound of drums peals.Farmers harvest golden rice plants.In winter, snow is falling heavily.It gradually turns the tiled roofs into white.Then, spring comes.People gather under a row of cherry trees along the river.The old tree in front of the temple gate is also blooming.Such a warm sunlight streams. And people set out rice plants again...
This is a movie of the scenery in Ikaruga, which shows their traditional way of living and life.
